Thunderbird 24.5.0 on OSX.

When I try to send email, I receive message "Login failed". When I 'cancel' that dialog, I receive the message "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server [server address] for an unknown reason.."

I have double-checked that the outgoing server settings are all correct. They are identical to what I have setup on thunderbird on a pc that is sending/receiving fine on the same account.

I can receive email, and strangely, I can save drafts, which do get saved to the server. I assume drafts are 'sent' to server using the same outgoing SMTP settings so not sure what is going on here?

Sorry, is this what you were after?

The only thing I can think is that the mailsever uses a self-signed certificate, although this has not caused any problems in the past.

Try with 'passwordCleartext' instead of 'passwordEncrypted'.

No luck with that. If I change authentication to 'normal password', I get the same problem. If I also select 'none' in 'connection security', it tells me the server requires encryption.

having the server name would make this so much simpler. It is after all in every email you send anywhere.
