This article is intended for IT administrators who wish to set up Firefox on the computers within their organization.

If you have created an add-on or extension for your organization, you can configure Firefox ESR to run it without having to sign the extension:

  1. Enter about:config in your address bar, and continue to the list of preferences.
  2. Find the xpinstall.signatures.required preference and set it to false.

Other installations of Firefox (non-ESR)

If your add-on needs to be used on non-ESR Firefox, you must sign it on Add-ons at Mozilla. See Mozilla Developer Network for more information..

Mozilla also offers an alternative signing method using the web-ext command if you plan to self-host an add-on.
