I keep getting this message. TypeError: PlacesUtils.nodeIsLivemarkContainer is not a function. PLEASE help me with this.
I get this error POPUP constantly.TypeError: PlacesUtils.nodeIsLivemarkContainer is not a function.
It just started today and I hadn't had any problems till today. I tried to find an answer doing a search and the only thing I found was something about 'ViewMarks' causing this problem BUT I don't have Viewmarks and don't even know what it is.

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
I went into safe mode, not sure what I was supposed to look for but saw nothing but the pop up constantly. I then got rid of all my extensions and I'm still getting the popup that says TypeError: PlacesUtils.nodeIsLivemarkContainer is not a function

Okay, I reset it and so far no popup BUT it has stayed in safe mode EVEN after rebooting computer.
Firefox Menu > Exit Firefox File > Exit
What do you mean with: BUT it has stayed in safe mode EVEN after rebooting computer.
If you start Firefox normally without holding down the Shift key then Firefox shouldn't start in Safe Mode.
What makes you think that Firefox is in Safe Mode?
For me, this problem was caused by an old legacy extension called SortPlaces. I removed the add-on, and the message went away.

Same problem and disabling SortPlaces fixed it. The popup was occuring every few minutes but haven't seen it for about 12 hours now. Thanks huuu1962
This error was fixed by resetting.
I am having problems with this error whenever using an old extension CheckPlaces v2.6.2. This was by far the best extension for checking for broken bookmarks.
It worked just fine on all versions of Firefox until 22.0. It can be still found at :
Is there any workaround out there?
- Bug 838798 - Remove deprecated nsILivemarkService interface

You would need to remove that code.
Yes I know the error was caused by SortPlaces and the author is not supporting it anymore but I really loved the addon and was wondering if anyone can fix it so it works with newer versions of Firefox. i haven't found another addon with all it features.
Hi techmanc,
Check out this page:
There are working modified versions of CheckPlaces, SortPlaces and other extensions originally created by Andy Halford that work for Firefox 22.
The versions of CheckPlaces and SortPlaces do not give the "PlacesUtils.nodeIsLivemarkContainer is not a function" and work perfectly. I use both of these on a very regular basis.
WooHoo! This was all I could have hoped for. Thanks!
