downloaded 4.0 for Mac osx, which replaced what i had, only it won't open saying it isn't supported by my system! how do i get my firefox back?

A couple of days ago I received a message to download 3.5. The next day to download 3.6. The info page it brings said download 4, so I did. Not noticing it had a circle-slash no sign, I followed the instructions and replaced my old version w/this one in Applications. Now it won't open saying it's "not supported on this system." I'm running osx 10.4.11. Now I'm afraid I've lost all my bookmarks. The only version I can find to download is 4. What now?
