Why can't I uninstall Google Toolbar for Firefox from Programmes & Features - browser page comes up instead of removing the programme?

When I upgraded to Firefox 7 - Firefox disabled Ext. for Google Toolbar as it said it wasnt compatible. I have tried to remove this Google Toolbar for Firefox which is still installed as a programme in programmes & features - but it will NOT budge... and I do not know why? 

                            Not only that I am inundated with daily "Google updater"   and cannot stop that either & I have read everything I can possibly find on this but nothing  is stopping it.  That's why I want to remove the Programme...
