I've lost all bookmarks for the browser. I know they are still there because I can go to Firefox options and the option for start up page list all the bookmarks. The menu bar doesn't appear any longer and using the info. from troubleshooting won't work because I can't get the menu bar up by pressing the alt. key

Does the menu bar appear if you press F10 ?

You may have a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
