after I have closed firefox and then try to reopen it will not do so. I have to go into task manager and end process. firefox then starts but appologizes for not being able to restore tab that I had closed before I closed firefox. This has only started happening since upgrading to 3.6. It happens on my laptop and my mates main computer. We both run Zonealarm if thats got anything to do with it. I hope someone can help as I have used fire fox for quite a few years and never been beaten before.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

== firefox upgraded to 3.6.6

if this happens when you quickly close and then try and open then that behaviour is normal, but if the process is still running a minute after closing i would suggest a clean install.

In the post by Anonymous, he is correct to an extent. Usually Firefox will close within 5-20 seconds. If a Flash animation/video is running, it may take a few seconds longer. I would hold off on the clean re-install until you do some further investigation.

ZoneAlarm (some versions/Toolbar) has caused some problems with Firefox. I do not recall the hanging at exit issue being one of them. After trying the following, you might want to visit the ZoneAlarm forum and look around or register and ask a question ( http://forums.zonelabs.com/index.php ).

Safe Mode You may need to use Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.

If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks everyone I am looking at the 'Kill Application' and have now restarted in safe mode so I can do as TXguy suggests. I am suprised on how many plug ins are installed and will look into what they do and if I need them

I will get back if any of this works
