ORGANIZE FILE FOLDERS IN THUNDERBIRD

I've asked this question before, but have gotten no response. Maybe I'm not explaining it clearly enough. I will try again. When I name a new file folder, how do I get it in the correct alphabetical order? I end up making it a subfolder in under another incorrect folder or it does not get in correct alphabetical order. I hope this is clearer to understand. I just don't know how to make it any plainer. Thank you for your kind response.

For versions prior to the 150x line, your only option is to reorder folders by drag-and-drop. As of 15x.x there's a new option to alphabetize them. When you right-click on the account name in the Folders Pane, the pop-up context menu now includes the option, "Reset Folder Order".

As for where the folder is initially created, make sure you right-click on the folder you want it under. That includes the base account name, that is, right-click on the account name and choose "New Folder" from there and it will be created as a sub-folder of the root. If you get it in the wrong place, you can drag-and-drop it from the Folders List pane.

Thank you for answering my question. How do I upgrade my Thunderbird so I can get the upgraded version? I so appreciate your help.

What's your current version? If it's one of the ESR (Extended Support Release) you won't be offered an automatic upgrade. But you can manually upgrade to the current release version (152.01) by downloading the installer from

https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

(I speak with knowledge of Windows only. Upgrading Linux is a special procedure that I can't recommend or advise you on.)

Just install it over the current version and your settings will be preserved.

TIPS & CAVEATS...

- Before you begin, check the status of all your add-ons to make sure they are compatible with the newer version

- MAKE A BACKUP OF YOU PROFILE before beginning the upgrade, so in case something goes wrong you can recover. Usually not necessary, but better safe than sorry. See the following article, specifically the section titled, "Manually back up the profile."

Lin, thank you for your patience with me. I finally have my new thunderbird email system the 152.01 downloaded and it seems to be working fine. However, I now have two Thunderbird programs on my machine. Do I now delete the old one?

OK, I see I didn't do my due diligence by asking more questions about your current setup before I advised you to upgrade. I should never assume...

- What is your operating system?

- Was your earlier version of Thunderbird a 32-bit version, or 64?

- Did you install your earlier version from an installer downloaded directly from thunderbird.net, or from a "store", like from Microsoft or Apple?

The store version installs the program in different locations than the official installer, though they both can use the same Profile.

I don't want to advise you about removing the duplicate programs until I hear your answers to the above.

Operating system = Windows 11

Was your earlier version of Thunderbird a 32-bit version, or 64? 140.12.1esr (64 bit)

Did you install your earlier version from an installer downloaded directly from thunderbird.net, or from a "store", like from Microsoft or Apple? I don't remember, however it would've been Microsoft store if I did not use the Thunderbird.net. The new one was from online with Thunderbird. I thank you so VERY much for all the time you are giving me. I've been so anxious.

If Windows shows two versions installed, they would be installed in different locations, so I'm guessing the older one came from the MS Store, I think it will safe to uninstall the older version from Windows Settings | Apps | Installed Apps.. You still have the backup copy of your profile, so if something goes wrong (unlikely) it would be easy to recover. But I don't think that will be necessary.

Go for it!

I am forever grateful! ! ! !
