Some touchpads cause issues when they act like a finger is on them, but the pad is not being touched. So much so that many just disable the pad altogether.
Can you use a mouse?

Not a "mouse-user" I have no problems smooth zooming with my touchpad, but I find pressing the "Ctrl and +" or "Ctrl and - " keys way easier ....
However, would this add-on be something you'd like to try ?
