My browser is using the blinking cursor from microsoft word to mark where it, and goes from that location using up/down
This happened from a cat walking on my keyboard so it's not quite as simple as pressing each button that I pressed to find out how to undo this. My primary internet browsing experience is on a laptop with a nasty little touchpad and I've been getting by on the arrows and page up/down till now. With the blinking "you are here" marker on the internet page I get to see either the top or bottom of the page unless I get to fiddling around with the touchpad and the scrolling bit on the side of the browser.

You do not need an extension to disable the caret browsing shortcut key. All you would have to do is to set this pref to false on the about:config page.
- accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Try hitting the F7 key to turn that feature off (Caret browsing).
You may have turned on caret browsing <F7> by accident.
Caret Out {web link} Disables change of the caret browse mode by shortcut key(F7).
