Hi, I've read numerous forums and searched through Firefox's help page but still can't fix this problem. The top right hand corner of Firefox offers various Search Engines. Yahoo's Y! keeps making itself the default. I've tried numerous suggestions to no avail. 1) about: config and change the keyword url did not work 2) Selecting manage search engines and hitting Remove did not work 3) Starting Firefox in safe mode and with all add ons disabled did not work 4) Going to Tools / Add Ons and couldn't find a trace of Yahoo to be able to remove it from Add Ons or Extensions 5) Going into Tools / Options and went through all the options there and nothing I have checked or unchecked there suggests how to remove Yahoo 6) Doing a search for anything Yahoo related on my computer itself yielded nothing except for some emails as unfortunately I have a yahoo email account.

Even though at times, it looked like one of the above methods worked, when I restarted my computer, that stupid Y! would pop up again.

I much prefer Google as my default search. It is my default home page but I tend to use the top right corner as a search engine when I'm already on a website.

Help! Thanks

How about going into the Windows control panel & removing any Yahoo crap from there ?

Hi Tex4s. I've tried that already but maybe I'm not doing it right? I've gone into uninstall programs to see if there are any Yahoo type programs there but can't find anything and I've done a search for yahoo as well to see if it's hidden anywhere. The only yahoo thing I have is an email address but I don't use messenger.

Tried that already and still doesn't work. Everytime I restart my computer and open FireFox, Yahoo reinstates itself in that search box at the top right hand corner.

So, you are able to delete that search engine from the Search Bar, but it is re-installed when you restart your PC and launch Firefox?

If that is the case, something you have installed on your PC, outside of Firefox, is re-installing that search engine. Exactly what programs appear in the Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs? Which ones were installed at the time that search engine appeared in the Search Bar?

Hi there

Thanks for taking the time to send me those links. I had a very thorough read and tried everything that was suggested and unfortunately I'm no better off. I think I'm about to give up and not use Mozilla at all.

I've tried going into about:config and making sure anything that had Yahoo in it was reset. I've checked that my prefs.js isn't read only so that when I make changes like removing Yahoo from my search engines list it should remember it. I've looked into my control panel and searched for anything that may be yahoo related and found nothing.

I'm at a complete loss. I can only curse Yahoo for making it so difficult to remove their stupid search engine.
