firefox 5 installation is hung up

Michael Verdi replied
bofirch

I was trying to install the upgrade to Firefox 5.01 and the installation had reached the point where i was asked to re-start. I did so but it did not take and continues to ask me to re-start my computer to complete the upgrade. Any attempt to download and install 5.01 or the previous version triggers the message that the current installation is not complete and my computer must be re-started. When I try to un-install Firefox either though Windows 7 Software removal program or another utility, this encounters the same message. This is becoming very frustrating. I am using Windowes Explorer to post this message. Any suggestions?

Check and tell if its working.

Try doing a clean install of Firefox:

  1. Download latest Firefox from mozilla.com
  2. Quit currently running Firefox
  3. Delete the Firefox program directory - the default location is C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox (your personal settings, bookmarks, etc will be saved as they are in a different folder)
  4. Run the Firefox installer that you downloaded in step 1
