An odd request
I received an email from Thunderbird (my email provider) wanting me to join the Early Bird Beta but their link to pay with PayPal didn't work so they requested I add a new credit card. I use PayPal often so I know my card on file with PayPal is OK. Seemed odd to me for their request. I could forward their email to me if needed. Looks like they are using Paddle.com Market Limited.

Please quote the email body precisely and in full. Likewise, the headers of the message (you can redact any sensitive information.) A screen shoot would do.
A couple things... "Thunderbird" is not an email provider. It's a program that runs on your local computer that allows you manage email on your provider's servers. Are you referring to "Thundermail", the email provider that is still being developed? It is, indeed, accepting requests to join its wait list, but I've never seen them refer to it as "early bird". [later edit - I do find it called an "Early Bird Plan" for $6/month] The most recent status update I've seen from them is from last June:
The bit about adding a credit card sounds very suspicious to me. Paddle looks legit to me, but I also find complaints about them. But I'll reserve judgement until I see your actual message.
