You need to place key3.db and logins.json in a 68 profile and delete an exiting key4.db. If you start Firefox 68 with this profile then you should get a key4.db file apart from the key3.db file and see the logins in the Password Manager if there aren't any problems.

You can possibly set signon.debug = true on the about:config page to log possible errors in the Browser Console.

Only the Lockwise App for a mobile device uses a Sync account to store the passwords. Lockwise in current Firefox releases for desktop store the logins in logins.json and key4.db (encryption key) in the Firefox profile folder and do not need internet access.

Thx 4 answer but:

1) Now I use old FF (52.9.0-esr) & install latest (78.7.x-esr). When i try manual add password from (clear FF-78) - i don see it. Only recomendation for use Sync etc. Only after restart FF-78 I see my manual inputed password in the "stored". WTF?

2) How i can migrate my local password DB from FF-52 (key3.db & login.json) to the new FF-78?

Any tool? key3->key4 mb?

Support for key3.db ended with Firefox 73 and newer, so you need to install (or update to) either Firefox 68.9.0 ESR or install Firefox 72 to migrate the password files (key3.db to key4.db).

You can't change key3.db to key4.db unless you run a Firefox version that supports both (58-72).

You can force Firefox 52 to switch to key4.db (SQL) by starting Firefox via a CMD (bat) file and include this line (SQL key4.db is supported in NSS 3.12 and later (2011)).

  • set NSS_DEFAULT_DB_TYPE=sql

About above:

Manual password add to the LockWise dont work (offline) if pw db is EMPTY. Added password showed after browser restart only. Seems as bug. If pw db not empty FF restart NN (fast test FF-78-latest-esr).
