When you double-click a kmz attachment, the first window asks "What should Thunderbird do with this file?". Click "Open with" and then click Browse... In the Choose Helper Application window, if the correct application is not listed, click Browse... and select the correct program (in this case, Google Earth - googleearth.exe).

The "Do this automatically..." box in the first window may be greyed out, but that is a separate problem to do with incorrect encoding of certain attachment types.

"Browse Application window, if the correct application is not listed, click Browse... and select the correct program". This only opens Libre Office, there are no other options.

I am now getting a "General input/output error"

If I forward the message and add "attachment" to the body, clicking on the pop up window there, before sending, opens Goggle earth.

Edit, Preferences attachments, now shows KML files and Google earth.

I have tried to open a defferent KMZ file from Ski Tracks. Same problem. clint :-(

It's probably easier to just save the attachments to your computer and open them outside of TB with Google Earth; there's no real advantage to opening them from TB.

somewhat. I agree with you. It is just that I left many years of using Evolution because of unresolvable lock up problems, and am not sure now that TB is an improvement - just different frustrations.
