Firefox shows windows from last time, how to clear last open tab?
I have Firefox set to restore my previous session when starting. The last tab open doesn't have an 'x' to close it. When pressing ctrl+w it will close the window in such a way that next time I open firefox it'll restore the previous tab.
Is there a way to make it close the last tab then exit when ctrl+w is pressed? This so that I can have a fresh session by clearing the last one on exit.

Set the browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab pref to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing that window and make a close button appear if only one tab is open.

Try doing this:
- Goto Tools>>Options and open the General Tab.
- Look beneath the Startup Section and check the "When Firefox Starts:" Field. If it is "Show My Windows and Tabs from Last Time", change it to "Show my Homepage" to display your home page or "Show a Blank Page" to display a blank page.
That should sort out your problem. If it doesn't let us know and we'll see what else can be done.
Cheers!
If you want to keep "session restore" as your default, instead of closing the last tab, how about going to your home page in that tab, or a blank page (you can bookmark about:blank to make it faster to load)? Then when you close it, that will be the page that reopens.

I think cor-el's solution is the best compromise. It would be nice if it closed the last tab and the window without reopening the same tab every time. I prefer it to remember what tabs I had open if I had more than one open at a time.
The current behaviour when using using remember tabs and windows from last time seems strange from a user's point of view to me.
