make munu bars hide then hover to show
hi all, with google taking so much screen space and the menus in windows so clunky, it seems time that all menu bars retract unless one activates by hovering. I have not found how to do this as yet. any suggestions ?

When you are in Full Screen mode, move the cursor to the top of the screen to reveal the Toolbars.

Hi dave_in_nj, probably you are in full screen mode ! Press the F11 key in keyboard. see also : How to make Firefox and websites go full screen
thank you
instead of going from one extreme to the other, I am hoping to find that sweet middle ground. in menu mode, you have all your menus, in reading mode, they retract to one bar.

yeah, either you are brilliant, or I am dumb. (no need to answer,it is some of both)
My desire would be for the drop down to linger. it vanishes instantly if I move too much. this net book mini is not easy to use and be precise with the touch pad.
is there a setting for duration after the cursor leaves the menu ?
If you want to see the tabs and location bar when full screen mode is enabled, follow these steps:
In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. In the Search field, type browser.fullscreen.autohide. Double-click the browser.fullscreen.autohide preference to set its value to false.
thanks again
You can also do this in full screen mode if you hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
If you right click free space on the tab bar or Navigation Toolbar then you have an "Hide Toolbars" item in the right-click context menu to show or hide the toolbars.
This hidden preference provides a small measure of control over the "animation" of the toolbars hide/unhide in the Full Screen mode.

You'll have to see if that helps you, as I have never used that pref myself. I am and have been using the Autohide add-on since 2004, which is no longer available.
