Before an upgrade, in the top left next to the refresh arrow, was an icon to click and change screens. It's gone now

If I switch screens like from mail to MSN, I need to open a new screen. Before, I just clicked the icon and it opened a screen with all the bookmarks.

Did you check your settings option to see if it had the "Open links in tabs instead of new windows" was checked or not?

Sorry, I'm 76 and not very good with computers. When I open the Firefox page, I see the icon that looks like a gear top right .I clicked on it them went to settings. I don't seem to see the open links tab. Am I looking in the wrong place ?

Do you still have the default Firefox Home setting for the home page and the new tab page?

  • Options/Preferences -> Home

You can click the Home button on the Navigation Toolbar to open a page with the Firefox Home page.

Hi, you mentioned bookmarks, so if the bookmarks button is missing (looks like a star with a square bracket on its side underneath), open the 3-bar menu > Library > Bookmarks > Bookmarking tools, and click Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar - see Bookmarks in Firefox. If you don't see it on the toolbar, go to the 3-bar menu > Customize, and look for it in the palette, from where you can drag it to a toolbar. If the button is still missing, try clicking on Restore Defaults. More Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

Just in case you are missing the (bookmarks and history) sidebar, please see Use the Firefox Sidebar to access bookmarks, history and synced tabs.

I don't think think you are referring to the bookmarks bar, but just in case: To see the bookmarks bar, right click in the tab bar (but not on a tab) and select Bookmarks Toolbar. Also see - Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window.

Sorry, but as I said, I'm 76 and really don't understand how to do what's stated in the last 2 messages. I can switch to different screens by just opening one and closing the other. It's just a bit slower than using the icon. I think that I confused the issue. The small icon was in the top left corner where there is a right and left arrow, and a circled arrow for refresh, and next to them, was the icon. Thank you for your help

Sent to me (this is a private message box, which means that what's said here is strictly between you and I)

I just came across your thread and I noticed that you marked Scribe's post as Chosen Solution, but from your last post I get the impression that your problem is not solved .... (?)

Am I wrong thinking that it is the Home icon that is missing - the icon that looks like a house  ?

And could it be that you have your homepage set to the New Tab Page  ? That is the page with the gear icon at the top right, that you mention ..... The homepage opens when you start Firefox, but it also opens when you click the Home icon, the one I think is missing ....

If I am right, would you please let them know in your thread that it's the Home icon you are talking about and that it's missing  ?

And then a very personal remark :
