Where did my bookmark folders go with new update?

Since the new Firefox update, there is no sign of my Bookmark folders anywhere. I can see my toolbar bookmarks, and most recently bookmarked, but there is NO SIGN of my folders with all my old bookmarks.

I see others are having the same issue - please help.

hi, in the firefox quantum default layout the combined library icon for bookmarks/history/downloads...) is replacing your bookmarks button that you're used to - when you go into customization mode, you can place the dedicated bookmarks button back onto the toolbar though ;-)

Thanks, but it is still the same if I drag the "bookmarks menu" into the box and click on done, there is no difference. I can still see the recently bookmarked list, but NO FOLDERS.

Here is someone else's question about this:

Right - as of now, the only way I can see my FOLDERS is to click on the new icon (beside the download icon) click on bookmarks and THEN at the very bottom, Click on "Show all Bookmarks"

This opens a window and there I clicked on Bookmark Menu. Here I can see my folders and if I double click on the folders, I can see the links/bookmarks.

At least it is a start!!

OR, click on the other icon that looks like a book and that opens up the panel on the left side of the screen - then click on Bookmarks Menu and the list of Folders shows up.

after you've dragged the "bookmarks menu" icon into the toolbar it should provide you with the old bookmarks dropdown that you're used to, once you click on that though...

Well, the long and the short of it is - it does not!! It still only allows me to see the recently bookmarked ones.

I should clarify - when I click on that bookmarks icon, it opens up the panel for bookmarks on the left side of the screen. Previously, I was able to get a dropdown below the icon of all my folders.

Now this gives me the bookmark folders, (after I click on "Bookmark Menu") in that left side panel, but it does not happen as the dropdown.

I'm already working on a super small screen, so taking a big section out of it with the bookmarks on the left side of the screen is not something I prefer to have

It will do, if there is no way of putting them back on the dropdown, but I preferred the old version.

The new bookmarks menu button () should work the same way as the old bookmarks menu button (), which was the "right-half" of the inseparable star+book duo.

To add that button, either:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button:
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

Once the button is on the toolbar, it should show the main level of the Bookmarks Menu (matching what you see when you use the Bookmarks menu on the top menu bar, give or take a few items at the top).

Hi jscher, Thank you. Finally, I have been able to add that star icon to my toolbar. I was never able to get that to go there before, so now again, I have my dropdown with my folders.

Thanks also to Tara who reopened this issue for me, I had all but given up.

I do hope that everyone else will now be able to regain the lost folders as it seemed to have affected quite a few users.

Thanks again.
