This has been happening for a while now and I have restarted, rebooted, reinstalled - basically everything you can do and it still is happening. Say I have about 5 tabs open, I will choose to go to another tab, upon leaving my current tab and clicking on the other one, it will automatically place me back into the middle most tab that I have open. It does not take me back to the previous tab that I was in (unless that was the middle tab) it always places me into the center most tab. Say if I have those 5 tabs open, and want to click on another tab, it will put me in the middle one with 2 tabs on the left and 2 tabs on the right, regardless of which tab I just left. It does not happen every single time but almost every 3rd time it happens. It is frustrating because I will think I am in the tab I want and start typing and it is completely wrong. Any fixes out there?

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Thank you so much, Seburo, for the quick reply. I will try this right now and give it a bit and see how it goes and report back. Thank you!

Well, that didn't take long. It jumped me to the center tab again.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you cor-el - I will try that next and see how it goes.

Restarted in safe mode and unfortunately, it still jumps.
