I have been downloading a file for two hours now and will loose my internet connection when I change locations. The file has three hours remaining. Can I pause the downloading so I do not have to start over again.

You should be able to right click on the download and click Pause you can then click Resume later.

In the future, I would highly recommend using the DownThemAll! addon for large downloads. It has a lot of settings and downloads files a lot faster than Firefox's internal downloading.
