Does the latest full version install keep the preferences of an older installation intact?

I had FF V.42 EME-Free on WIN7SP1 32bit. Yesterday I checked for the latest version using the About/Check link. Although V.43.0.3 was already out for a couple of days, FF offered to update only to 43.0.1. I did update to that version successfully. However, when I check (even today) for the latest version it says that I'm fully updated - without giving me the 43.0.3 choice.

I want to force updating to 43.0.3 ME=Free , and I see two choices: 1. Downloading the full EME-Free version from the Mozilla FTP server and install in place of the older 43.0.1 version 2. Using the update stub from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version

Questions: 1. If I install a full new version over the older one, do the install process preserve all configuration settings and prefernces that I had in the old version (i.e. like what a normal update does)? 2. If I select the stub install, will it know to install the EME-Version? Please note that I activated the stub install process, but it did not indicate that it was the EME-Free vesion, so I did not proceed.

Edit: In Question #2 "the EME-Version" should read "the EME-Free version"

You can normally only change the update channel by installing a full version of that specific release. I assume that the EME free version behaves like a separate Firefox version and has its own update channel.

Current Firefox release on the CDN server:

As I implied in my OP (I guess I was not clear there), I don't want to change the update channel. I always used the EME_Free channel, and want it to continue. The update process via Help/Update always did the right thing - updating to the latest version, EME-Free.

However, now the Help/About just stopped offering me the latest (43.0.3), So I want to force that version by installing a full FF package from the FTP site (43.0.3 EME-Free). I downloaded that full package, but before commencing the install I want to know if all my previous settings be preserved if I go through that full install.

Rethinking about my post, I can re-restate it that way:

Will a fresh new full version installation preserve the setting of a prior installtion?

(the response to that question will be applicapable to both regular as well as EME-Free systems - I just indicated in my OP that I run EME-Free in case that explains why I don't see the latest in the Help/Update)

Updating to Firefox 43.0.3 may have been halted temporarily because of Bug 1235537 (this is about crashes) that happens with that version that is happening with some specific software.
