How do I remove an address card from Address Book?

Found problem was in Yosemite. If email address is in the OS10 Contact list, it must be deleted there which also deletes card from Thunderbird Address Book. If email address is not in the Yosemite Contact list, the address can be deleted in Thunderbird's Address Book.
For anybody else reading this, it seems that Thunderbird's Address Book (still) has read-only access to the native Mac address book.
I'm surprised and disappointed because I thought I'd read about moves to change this and make it a two-way connection.
