How do I fix the extreme lagg i'm experiencing after the latest firefox uppdate?

My web browser was working fin until firefox decided to uppdate to the latest version yesterday eavening. I now experience lagg to the extent that it's practically imposible to use in any normal sence. Tre is an aproximate 30sec lagg before the browser recognices that I have changed tab, The page I'm on wont scroll down smoothly but jumps downwards i a jerky fasion making it verry hard to know how far down in a text I am, and writing text is it's own challange since I write 3-4 words before the first one appears on skreen.

How do I fix this?

If you try Firefox Safe Mode, it will disable hardware acceleration and add ons temporarily and you can see if these are contributing to the issue. If it was indeed hardware acceleration see the update below.

Just as an update, after investigation of general hardware acceleration issues there is an update going out today that should resolve this. The new version will be 38.0.5 beta on June 2. Thank you for your patience, please do report back if there are any further issues.
