My old computer died and I had to purchase a new one. The hard drive from the old computer is OK and I can access the files on it. What I need to do is get all my old e-mails and address book from the old hard drive and load them to Thunderbird on the new computer. I tried using the "import" feature, but it will not locate the old files. Could someone tell me where to find these files and how can I get them transferred to the new computer?

If you haven't done too much already on the new computer, you could just copy the old profile over from the old computer to the new one.

If there is already a collection of messages in the new installation, then I'd copy in the old profile, set it as default, then use the ImportExportTools add-on to import the mailbox files from the new profile, thereby bringing the old profile up to date.

I got all the old e-mails back, but not the address book. It is in a file impab.mab. Can I just rename the file to abook.mab in the same folder? If not how can I import it into Thunderbird?

I renamed the impab.map file to abook.map and it worked!
