Thunderbird 68 crashes unexpectedly when forwarding messages

Please debug Thunderbird 68's propensity to crash when forwarding a message. I had to revert to the web interface with Gmail to forward a message. T'bird crashed three times in a row when I tried to forward a message. I am trying it in safe mode now but something is clearly wrong with the new version. Am running a Wintel PC, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, 16 Gb RAM, i7-4790K CPU at 4 GHz. What's wrong?
