Tags and privacy
I would like to know if the tags (important, work, personal...) applied to messages are stored locally only, or are they synced via IMAP with the email server like the read/unread status. That is, when I tag a message in Thunderbird, does my e-mail provider see this?

It depends if the mail server supports keywords. I have one account that does, but others don't.

Thanks. Is it possible to force Thunderbird not to sync tags for an account? I have one account on Gmail and I don't want it to send any more info back to Google than it has to.
I'm not aware of a way to disable tag syncing, but you may find that custom tags are not sent to the IMAP server, while the 5 built-in tags are sent, if the server supports keywords (as does gmail). Given that gmail already has access to the entire message, I doubt that tags add any significant info.
That really sucks. I'll have to find another way to set aside important messages. The only reason I use gmail at all anymore is because of a few people whose mail provider doesn't like that I have my own domain (hello google...)
You can always create a separate folder for important messages, or move them to Local Folders if you wish to keep them separate from IMAP folders.
Thanks, I'll probably copy them to a local folder for the gmail account. It's a shame because I find the tags really useful, you can see the important messages together with the rest.
Good Morning,
I lost the tags I had in one of the email accounts in thunderbird version 60.9 just in the inbox. I have no problems with other accounts and those sent from this account I using IMAP
Can someone help me with this problem.
Thanks,
I too am struggling with a Tags problem. I have 2 Message Filters that set Tags on the emails within 1 gmail account. It used to work that going down the list of filters would override the display from a previous filter, but 78.4.3 does not work that way. This seems to be a bug.
