Unable to see messages
All help gratefully appreciated! Last week I got an 'restart thunderbird to update' message and did so... and since then have not been able to access my messages. I can see they are there but cannot view them at all no matter what I try
To summarise; Wednesday - I clicked 'restart to update' and then once that was done I closed my computer down so no idea what thunderbird was like then Thursday - when I started Thunderbird the message screen was 'blank' with no emails showing and no email accounts showing (but I now think this is just that it will not display messages). It also did not ask me for my login etc - I searched online and have tried everything I can find is suggested about deleting folders (have deleted multiple times folders such as 'foldertree','loging','sesion','xulstore', 'global-messages') pressing F8 etc but no luck - I did note that when I clicked on 'help>about' it said 'restart to update' but also told me I was on 68.6.0. After uninstalling and then reinstalling this disappeared - I've restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled thunderbird multiple times but no luck
The situation now: - If I go into profile manager and add a new profile, and give it a new profile folder, I can see all new things as they should be. I can add folders, see messages, send messages etc However, - If I go into profile manager, and add a new profile, but point it to the previous profile folder: I can see my various email accounts are there but cannot get new emails as I'm not being shown any messages I can see that all my old local folders are there but it won't show me any messages I can search messages and find all of them (as far as I can tell) right up until this all went wrong but when I click to view any of them they don't appear
So, I think something has gone wrong in the profile that is stopping messages from being displayed even though they are there. I do have a lot of old emails (I can tell you any files sizes if that helps) and have split them into multiple folders to try and help with this e.g. 'sent' is split into multiple years.
All help gratefully appreciated!

Try copying the Mail or ImapMail folder from the old profile into the new profile. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_mail_storage_location_-_Thunderbird

Yes- that did it! Thank you so much. I knew there had to be something simple like that to do but just didn't know what folder to move. Truly appreciate your help
You're welcome.
