Where can I download Tbird 17.X - Hate all new crappy versions
Lost my laptop hard drive. Trying to re-establish it including Thunderbird. Severely hate newer versions of Tbird. Too much crap and usless stuff like calendar, etc. Can't even use v38 which some how was downloaded and replaced my older version (17) of Tbird. Plan to go back a long way with Tbird or get some other email software.
Question -- how/where do I get older versions that are simple and work well? I went to the site
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases but couldn't decipher which of the files I need to re-establish an earlier version of Tbird.
Need advice -- not on how to use the new v38 -- but to go back to around v17.
The problem with Mozilla is that Firefox and Tbird are both continually updating (and now forcing it down your throat -- I can't see how to block updates so that I can stabilize my use). The continual updating allows the guys that are participating in the creation of new versions to continually propose updates of lots of "gismos" that THEY think are wowwie and that we the users do not need or care about. I hate the idea of having to move away from Mozilla but it may be time.

No one can help you choose the old version unless you say what you want. I'm going to guess you are:
- Windows
- Latest issue of TB 17
- En-us language
So that means you download: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/17.0.8/win32/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%2017.0.8.exe
BTW, the Lightning calendar is still optional. You are offered the chance to decline it, and since it's still just another add-on you can remove it if it does become installed.
What else in current versions do you find intolerable? The only feature I have seen that I have no use for is Chat, and it's very easy to ignore it. There are other cosmetic changes that I don't much like, but again, it's all customizable to an extent you will find hard to find elsewhere, and it's not very much work to make it look as you want it.
