The time displayed may be correct but what about the time zone setting. Thunderbird gets its time from the computer clock. Check your time zone setting.

Something is way off. Computer now reads 6:32, Thunderbird clock reads 8:14, but has been stuck there for at least 4 minutes

Thunderbird clock reads 8:14 Thunderbird does not display a clock so I have no idea what you are looking at.

How can I change the time zone setting? That is a computer function and I have no idea what computer or operating system you have. I use Windows and i click the clock on the taskbar and then click Change Date and Time Settings.
