I think I've discovered the sequence that causes this - move a folder under Inbox/other to another location Inbox/otherother and the preview no longer displays when message is selected. Preview pane is blank

What does "another location" mean? Same account or a different account? What do you expect to happen if you move a folder from one account to another?

For myself, I don't know what would happen, particularly if one account is POP and the other is IMAP. Would a folder moved from an IMAP account to somewhere else remain synchronised to its original account, or somehow automatically transfer its synchronization to its new host? What if its new host is a POP account, or Local Folders, where synchronization would be meaningless?

I don't move folders; there are too many unknowns.
