I started off with Orange broadband, and installed Tbird, this then became EE. I left EE and am now with SSE Broadband. I could receive but not send emails, that is, until this morning when I rang EE, and they got me to change all the settings, even POP ones, and now I cant receive email either-GRRRRRR-

SSE dont provide email service, so cant provide settings, but EE INSIST that as I'm no longer with them, that they cant provide SMTP settings " thats down to your new provider " ! SSE tell me as they dont provide email it's up to EE, so what do I do now ?

Like most people, I simply cant afford to suddenly lose my whole main email account, I have Paypal and many sites using it

Can ANYONE help?

I simply need settings that will WORK !

The server is setup by the email provider. They are the ones that establish server settings. If your original ISP provided your email service and you left them, you no longer have email service. Who is your email provider now? What is the last part of your email address starting with the @ sign?

@ORANGEHOME.CO.UK.

So it looks like I've lost my whole email setup.

Oh joy, thats going to cause havoc.

Thanks for reply.

Get yourself a Gmail, outlook, Yahoo or gmx account. That will be yours to keep regardless of what ISP you use. Of those, gmx would be my choice considering the privacy and quality of service concerns I have with the others.

I'm not clear whether you were using POP or IMAP with your Orange account. Hopefully POP, since that means your old messages should be stored in Thunderbird.

Yes its POP.

Im no expert so here's a question--

Is is possible to set up GMX with my old email address so they still come thro ?

Thanks for GMX tip, I will look---

No. Email addresses are not like house numbers. Email addresses belong to the email provider that issued them and they let you use them. The exception would be if you had a personal email address that you setup and just have a provider host it. Since the address you are asking about ends in @ORANGEHOME.CO.UK. that belongs to the provider that you stopped paying.

Ok , thank you for that. Here's an update.

I looked at my laptop, and found to my delight that on it, I CAN send emails as well as receive on usual email addy, but after putting same settings on pc, can now receieve but cant send!

I have no antivirus to cause issues, I use cc cleaner and Malwarebytes usually.

Any ideas why same settings wont work on pc ? ( Win7)
