Downloaded Thunderbird to Surface Pro 3 (WIndows 8) and everything synched fine with my Gmail account for a few days. Stopped downloading emails and doesn't appear to be connecting to server at all now.

Make sure Thunderbird isn't blocked by a personal firewall.
