Hello,

Recently the search by smart keyword feature has stopped working for me (where I can for example search YouTube directly by typing "yt Never gonna give you up"), instead of searching youtube it does the default search from the addressbar. I haven't installed any new addons or changed settings and in the settings the keywords are still set.

It's a feature I use heavily, and one of the reasons I prefer Firefox over anything else. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I am using FirefoxDeveloperEdition 38.0a2 on Mac OS X 10.10.3 (Yosemite)

I tried going back to Firefox 36.0.1 and I did not have this problem there, even with the same add-ons and settings. Could this be a bug in 38?

Works for me with the current build of the developer version.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
