I need help. mozjs.dll is missing and I need to know where to put the replacement

more options

I got an error telling that mozjs.dll is missing. I downloaded one off the internet and now I need to know where to shove it.

I also uninstalled firefox and am going to install a new copy, but I need to take care of this first.

Please advise,

Thanks,

Ed

For your security, please do not install random files off the internet that claim to be part of or needed by Firefox!

Do you have a screen capture of the error message you saw?

more options

no, just a message from the firefox installation stub that said the file was missing and that the installation could not proceed.

Try using the full installer from this page (scroll down to your language):

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

NO DICE...tells me nss3.dll is missing.

These components should be included with the installer. Is it possible that your security software is monitoring the TEMP folder and removing files while Firefox is trying to install?

more options

if you're referring to antivirus, I found and excluded from antivirus scanning every temp folder I could find. Now what?

more options

So that didn't make any difference, you still get the same error?

Could you try renaming the Firefox program folder? Most like it's here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

If you still have this folder after your uninstall, it may have been preserved due to files that third party software dropped into it.

Try renaming that folder to OldFox and run the full installer again. Any better?

it's not there. In fact, I searched the entire C drive using the terms FIREFOX and MOZILLA, and the only stuff I found was some files in a windows.old directory.

more options

The Windows.old directory likely would be from an OS reinstall and contain your old data.

Other than interference from security software, or perhaps malware, I can't think of a reason for the installer not to work. Hopefully another volunteer will have some additional suggestions.
