Thunderbird has pretty much been crashing at least once per day for a long time. (two years). I'm generally just too busy/lazy to submit the crash reports but I have submitted about 30 as recently as today and will continue.

STEPS TAKEN

  • Running the Latest version of Thunderbird ( 91.5.1 32-bit )
  • Safe Mode. Still crashes.
  • I only have 4 extensions and while one is not quite ready for TB91, removing it doesn't affect how often it crashes.
  • the extensions are Expression NG, Manually sort folders, Provider for Google Calenday and Remove Duplicates.
  • I have completely reinstalled Thunderbird at least once. I do have a LOT of mail, but I have plenty of memory and drive space.

Try running Windows in safe mode, to test the effect of startup apps like antivirus, then try TB in TB normal mode.

Post the last few crash IDs from Help/More Troubleshooting. An ID is a string beginning with bp-.

I'll try running Windows safe mode test but in the meantime...

Not sure where my reply went.

I will test Windows safe mode but in the mean time...

The IDs show in this topic, but when I try to view them, I see the attached picture. Until a few months ago, crash reports were readily viewed.

Thunderbird crashes are now at https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/ Unfortunately SUMO and bugzilla autolink do not use that reference URL.

miles, are you still crashing when using a newer version of Thunderbird? (91.6.1 is out)

I believe I resolved the issue by re-installing Thunderbird

I basically treated the process as "moving to a new computer" but once I copied out the Thunderbird folder containing the profiles to a safe place I deleted Thunderbird, deleted the appData Thunderbird folder and installed the latest version following the standard "move to another computer" instructions of installing and then putting the original Thunderbird folder with the profiles back in place.

I did this 3 days ago, and it hasn't crashed yet. Normally it would crash at least once per day, sometimes more.

I will post again in a few days to confirm. Overall, this is easy enough and fast enough to be a first step once basic more common crash issues are ruled out like being caused by add-ons.

Yes - if I use the Crash ID link in Forum then it does not work, but if you use the Crash ID link in the received email from forum, then it works.

I did report as a bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1759369
