How do I turn off the pop up notifications that constantly come up for downloads and email? The noise is annoying and the pop ups are very intrusive.

Whenever I download something a small pop up...slide out...appears on the upper right corner of the browser. Unable to do a screen shot as they disappear to fast when they occur. I am also getting the same thing when I receive new email. The sound is annoying and when trying to do or work on other things on my computer this is very intrusive and disrupting.

Hello there. I'm not too familiar with Apple products (Desktops/Laptops). But I'm going to try my best. As for your download popup, does this popup near the download history button on your FireFox browser taskbar, aka top right. Right next to the home button.

As for your email popup, are you using a Browser-based email login? Or is it an app you use on your computer for your email?

If it's app-sided/desktop. Then you should be able to go into your notification center and disable the pop-up notifications.

My email is Yahoo. I do not have any apps. The popup always shows up in the same place for both downloads and emails, although I 'may' have managed to stop the email. It is exactly where you describe.

Okay, thanks! Try this, if you paste this "about:preferences#content" into your browser for FireFox, you can change notifications settings. If they were allowed for those Websites. You can also put "Do not disturb" setting, for when you're at hard work!

edit: In regards to the download popup, you can change it. Refer to this solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/822640

I won't cause any issues with going to 'about:config' with the warning it gives, will I?

No, if anything gets corrupted, you can always re-install Firefox or manually fix it. Firefox is a free software for web-browsing.

browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete, already appears to be set to false... Strange... I can't test it at the moment, because I don't currently have anything to download. Should I still have that issue, do I post a new thread, or follow this one?

You can leave this one open until then. Just to leave more possibilities open for improvement in helping your case. Best Luck!

Ty ever so very much for the assistance. I will keep the thread bookmarked in case this matter continues.

The download alert changed a while ago. You normally would see an animation involving the download arrow on the toolbar, the one you click to see the status of downloads and open previous ones.

If you see an actual panel with text in it, could you check the settings for this add-on? Download Manager (S3) For example, you may be able to do that using a toolbar button it adds (if it adds one) or on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then find that extension listed on the right and try its Preferences button (I think -- on Windows it's the Options button). Any feature to control notifications?

Ty ever so very much. I have downloaded the addon and will give it a go.

Oh, I mentioned that add-on because you shared your extensions list with us -- next to your question, Question Details > More System Details -- and it showed that you already had it installed and enabled. I'm not actually recommending it since I am not personally familiar with it.

Np...it at least gave me a clue as to where the problem was, and I unchecked the notification part that popups up the message and makes the annoying sound. So thanks are still in order... :)
