You tube sites no longer play. They say something about 5 player and this has been down loaded and still doesnt play - why? How is this fixed?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

HTML5 video works natively in Firefox, no need for any add-ons. And if you insist on installing an add-on to get certain extra features, don't install more than one which does the same thing.

I see 4 add-ons listed for "YouTube"- "more" doesn't mean "better", "more" may break it for you - disable them all and see if it HTML5 videos work. IMO, the most important thing is that HTML5 is set with Google and you're not clearing the cookie for that Google feature.

Thanks for your reply but it isnt playing despite it having a copy natively so there's clearly something wrong. You mention IMO - what is this? What is set with google? How would I clear cookies for that google feature and what feature are you referrintg to?

Sorry to ssound thick but Im not a computer engineer I just want to watch videos on ou tube which could be done easily until this eve when it simply stopped.
