For years I had an pop account in my Thunderbird, next to my Imap account. Both live happily next to each other. Today I moved all the mails from my pop account (which was no long active, nor was it connected to a server) to my local folders. I found out that all of my folder were suddenly twice the size. Compressing didn't do a thing. Why is this?

Hello I have just set up Thunderbird successfully and I'm trying to fine tune it.

In "account settings>synchronization I checked to keep messages on this computer. I think I understand that that means all synchronized folders including inbox in TB will match up with the same on the server, headers and main text body. If I uncheck that setting while online, does that mean that all message bodies will immediately be deleted from my TB profile? or does it only apply to new downloads so that headers only are downloaded, until they are clicked on?

Im not sure what the heck happened about a month or so ago, and I have still not resolved it. I did check on thing that was suggested to me, but it didnt really make much of a difference. After an update at about that time, my email folders I made appeared all wacky in the sense that some folders were grayed out, but still retained subfolders (with their contents) in them. I dont know what that means or why they are grayed out. I also noticed a bunch of folders named Userfolder with a number after that. They contain many emails in each one, like they were removed from the original folder they were in. So I dont know, for most of them, what folder I had them in. Im thinking I can try and match them to the grayed folder they might belong to, but not sure on where some go. I have no idea why this happened, and I have been trying to use Thunderbird since then. Im attaching a photo of what part of my Thunderbird, folders & grayed out folders look like. I just want to know how to correct this and get things back in order. I dont know if I did something in the settings or what. Plus this was over a month ago. Ive just been using my yahoo mail account on the web.

IMAP: Moving messages to Local Folders does not delete them from Gmail

Hello, I would like to understand how to configure Thunderbird with IMAP accounts so that moving messages to Local Folders automatically removes them from the mail server… (read more)

Hello,

I would like to understand how to configure Thunderbird with IMAP accounts so that moving messages to Local Folders automatically removes them from the mail server.

I am currently experiencing this issue with Gmail.

1. Manual message moving

When I manually move an email from the Gmail Inbox to a Thunderbird Local Folder, the message is successfully moved locally. However, on the Gmail server, the message remains in the Inbox and is marked as read instead of being deleted.

2. Automatic message filters

I have configured message filters in Thunderbird to automatically move certain incoming emails to Local Folders.

The messages are successfully moved to the specified Local Folders, but instead of being deleted from Gmail, they appear to be archived and remain on the server.

Expected behavior:

- When I manually move an email from an IMAP folder to a Local Folder, it should be removed from the mail server. - When a message filter moves an email to a Local Folder, it should also be removed from the mail server. - Messages moved to Local Folders should retain their original read/unread status.

My questions:

1. How should Thunderbird be configured to achieve this behavior? 2. Are there specific settings for deleting messages from an IMAP server after moving them to Local Folders? 3. Does Gmail require additional IMAP configuration to ensure that moved messages are actually deleted rather than archived? 4. Is there a recommended way to configure message filters for this purpose?

My goal is to use Thunderbird Local Folders for storing emails while removing the original messages from the Gmail server to free up storage space.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

I’m having trouble adding my Gmail account to Mozilla Thunderbird. The Google authentication process completes successfully, but the problem persists in Thunderbird, and I’m unable to configure the account correctly.

I have double-checked the account names and credentials, and I can confirm that they are correct. The authentication process has been completed successfully multiple times, and the passwords have also been verified. Therefore, the issue is not caused by incorrect account names, passwords, or authentication details.

I have attached screenshots showing the problem for reference.

Could you please help me identify the root cause of this issue and explain how to resolve it?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

This morning, my email Inbox is empty. I use Thunderbird for four email accounts, and three of them are fine, but the fourth one has an empty Inbox this morning. I didn't (intentionally, anyway) move the emails anywhere, and they do appear to be in the All Mail folder, so I didn't lose them entirely. But I keep my emails mostly in my Inbox and they aren't there anymore.

Any ideas what happened to make them disappear and how I can get them back to the Inbox?

Thanks!

Using Thunderbird with Windows 11. Yesterday I could send/receive Emails OK. Today I cannot use either. Didn't change anything. When I try to send message, a box with this message appears: "Login to server smtp.gmail.com with username [redacted] @gmail.com failed". I am logged in to my Google account. A few months ago, the same thing happened. Gave up for the night and the next morning everything worked OK. Is Thunderbird occasionally out of service? I tried Microsoft Outlook and it works OK so I know internet is OK

Also, I notice receiving messages takes a long time sometimes. I get messages sometimes a full day later. Outlook is almost instantaneous. If I send a message to me, it is received within seconds. Any suggestions? Regards, Art Towslee [redacted] @gmail.com [redacted] (cell)

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a reliable method to convert multiple MBOX files to PDF format with attachments preserved. I have several email archives, and manually opening and saving each email as a PDF would take too much time. I also want to retain important email details, such as sender, recipient, subject, date, and attachments.

While searching online for the best MBOX to PDF converter in 2026, I came across Aryson MBOX to PDF Converter Tool. It appears to support bulk conversion and attachment handling. Has anyone here used Aryson for this purpose? How was your experience with the conversion quality, attachment preservation, and overall performance? I’d appreciate genuine feedback or suggestions for other reliable methods
