Suggestions please.

Hello! Since a recent Thunderbird update (I think 13th Nov), when clicking on the Thunderbird icon on my taskbar a donation webpage is opened not the application! I went to 'setting>apps&features' but the 'modify' button is greyed-out. How do I change it back (what 'setting' do I need to change)? I really don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall. Regards, Tim

Unable to enter password/verification code in Microsoft OAuth2 login popup (Thunderbird 128 ESR & Firefox 115 ESR)

Hi everyone, I’m facing a very strange issue when trying to authenticate a Hotmail account via Microsoft OAuth2 in Thunderbird (and also in Firefox).

When the Microsoft login popup appears, I **cannot focus the password field or the verification code field**. The focus just cycles through other UI elements (buttons, dots at the bottom right, etc.), but **never stays inside the input field**, so I can’t type anything. Clicking into the field does not help — the focus immediately jumps away again.

This only happens in:

  • Thunderbird 128.12.0 ESR (32-bit) on Windows 10
  • Firefox (same behavior)

But Edge and Chrome work normally.

What I already tried (no success):

- Removing OAuth tokens and clearing authentication files in Thunderbird - Disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox - Disabling browser extensions (ad-blockers, NoScript, Privacy tools) - Checking and modifying Firefox `about:config` privacy settings - Clearing and re-authorizing the app under Microsoft Account permissions - Restarting in Firefox Troubleshooting Mode - Switching temporarily between OAuth2 and Normal Password authentication - Testing on fresh login windows after restarting Thunderbird - Maximizing the popup, using tab/keyboard navigation tricks - Turning off Windows Security controlled folder access - Testing with different networks

None of the above solved the issue.

Additional notes / clues:

  • Problem affects only **Thunderbird + Firefox**, not Chromium browsers
  • Windows 10 system
  • Thunderbird is running **32-bit ESR**, so it uses Gecko/Firefox ESR 115 engine
  • This looks like a **focus bug in the Microsoft OAuth WebView implementation** on Gecko-based apps
  • I can't complete the OAuth login, so I’m stuck without access to the account

What I’m asking the community:

  • Is this a **known ESR bug** with Microsoft OAuth?
  • Is there a workaround or patch for Gecko WebView secure input fields?
  • Any configuration that I may have missed?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There is an old question just like this here and the answer doesn't work for me.

I would like to see my tasks appear on my calendar ie a task due on the 26th should show up alongside any appointments I have in that date slot. Google Calendar does this.

The answer to the question linked to above says to use View - Calendar - Current View - Tasks in view

I have those options and I tried them. Nothing. I have a task with a date and time on it and I am looking in the calendar for the right date and I don't see it. Is this feature still working? Is there something else I need to do to turn it on?

Thanks

Not receiving email from certain "institutions;" seems OK from individuals, but can't be sure. Use Outlook address as main "give out" address. All mail is autoforwarded to a Gmail address where Tbird picks it up. Been happening for a while, but this is todays experience. Intermountain Healthcare (IHC) sent me an email with a verification code for my email address. Never arrived. Went to Outlook.live.com > not there. Went to Gmail.google.com > not there. Does this imply it's IHCs fault? REALLY having trouble resolving this. Suspected it has happened with other "institutions" as well, as phone calls indicated emails had been sent. Have created "Message filter" that runs before spam classification that moves messages from IHC addresses to my inbox, but doesn't seem to help. Any help appreciated.

I have just started getting this error message when sending email from my @live.ca account. I do not get this message when sending from a @gmail or @company.ca address.

Quote: "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Non-Compliant sender address. Code : -1. Please check the message and try again."

I can send and receive email using this address from my Android phone or from my Windows eMail client, so why is Thunderbird causing this? I have looked through all the setting and cannot find anything different from the settings for the @gmail accounts.

Thanks. Dave

Hi everyone,

I've moved from Windows 10 to Kubuntu 25.10 and recognized that there's no number of unread messages shown at the icon for Thunderbird in the taskbar. I've googled around and found suggestions of to install libindicator, extensions in Thunderbird, enable some settings etc. But the mentioned setting doesn't exist for me, the extension isn't available any more and installing libindicator didn't change anything. So, it looks to me like all of that info is simply outdated and some of it was from 10 years ago.

OTOH, what I can enable in Thunderbird is a notification whenever any new mail comes in. But that's not what I want. I would just like to see a counter at the top of the icon showing the unread messages. Individual new messages when arriving aren't of that much interest to me, I just want to know that there are some and I'm going to look at them at some point.

So, does Thunderbird support such counters for the KDE desktop environment? I simply don't think so.

Thanks!

I am unable to connect Thunderbird to my “Personal” Outlook.com mail account. I installed Thunderbird on a new laptop with Win11-home. I connected to yahoo and icloud without issue. In the past I used an app-specific password to connect Thunderbird to Outlook. But Microsoft no longer allows me to make app-specific passwords on a personal account. I have two factor authentication on the MS account. I have tried turning off virus and firewall protection, without success.

When I create a new email account in Thunderbird I get the following error. “Authentication failed. Please check the username and password - Exchange auth error”

If I put my personal name in the Your Logon field, rather than my email address, I get a Microsoft screen pop that shows “oauth2” in the URL. But if I click the personal account they present it quickly fails.

Is there a workaround, to fix this, since I can’t get a app-specific password and have two-factor authentication on my Microsoft account?

Thank You for any help you can provide. I have spent a day researching this without success.

Thunderbird stopped getting incoming email. I can log into my email via a browser to my email provider and get current emails that way, but not through Thunderbird.

I AM able to send emails, and they are received at the other account. However, they don't show up in my Thunderbird "sent" folder.

My provider tech support was unable to help me correct this, but all settings appear normal.

I restarted Tbird, and rebooted the computer. Nothing changed. I'm running windows 11.
