I'm really beginning to wonder why I use Firefox. For years I've felt violently abused (it's not an exaggeration in my head) by the UI team who lord over it in a totalitarian way instead of just giving us options to not be constantly humiliated every day we use it.

The address bar has become my worst enemy lately. I keep staving off "86ing" Firefox from my life by editing the CSS this and that, when it worked just fine for years, but it changes and every time for the worse. How can we effectively get Firefox to give us options? Why are options so bad? Why do we not deserve options? I want to know how we can apply pressure on the institution to make FF usable again.

Here are a few examples, the last is the worst of them:

1) I want to have an X button on tabs, I just want to be able to delete a tab? Why can't I have an option for this? (I have to use crazy CSS script. Normal people don't go to that length. I would not adopt FF out of the box today.)

2) Many complain about the address bar that freaks out whenever you touch it. I want an option to disable that. (Again I have a CSS script that makes it act like normal productivity software. That's insane. Why can't we have an option to make the address bar behave like a normal HTML form element? I just want an option.)

3) As of FF 86 I can no longer use the address bar to perform searches. I've added the Search bar to my UI so I can do searches, but the browser still defaults to the address bar, so I have to click over to the Search bar. And if I use the address bar by accident, it laughs at me and refuses to process my search. I just want to be able to search with an address bar. I remember years ago having to remove the search bar because it would no longer search, but the address bar would search. My radical solution was to amputate the search bar. Now I'm in the complete opposite situation where the search bar searches but the address bar doesn't search. Again, I just want an option to be able to apply searches with my browser.

I just want an option for FF to not be aggressively hostile to me. It's not so simple as to ignore it. Every time you interact with the UI it's its own humiliation. It's a constant reminder of impotence. And questioning why do I subject myself to the whims of these people who're pulling my tail like I'm some monkey.

What the hell is wrong with Mozilla? Is is it still Mozilla? Why can't add-on people effectively address these problems if Mozilla won't? Why dictate how everything is, and then make everything unusable? Why?

How can we make our voices heard? Why can't Mozilla just kill FF if its goal seems to be to do that by making it unusable? Why not just close shop? Because some one will carry it on because it's open source? It really seems like someone wants FF to be unpopular. How else can we understand that it doesn't just give options? No even options in its crazy about:config system? Why am I in this masochistic relationship with FF? What's in it for FF?

Firefox will not stay logged in to some accounts online such as youtube where I will have to hit "log in" repeatedly and each time it opens the next page it's a crapshoot if it will show up as if I was logged in or not and if I click to something else it will log me out again. even when it shows a username like it's logged in, the customizable tool bars will be seen as if I'm not. This goes beyond youtube as even in areas where I'm trying to log in for business it does the same thing to the point it is impossible to use.

This started a while back but and I've just dealt with the problem because I couldn't find a fix. I've tried clearing the history/cookies/caches, nothing changed. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but it persists. No changes I've made with the settings has done anything.

I have 100s of profiles that i need to move to a new computer but the names of the profiles are not .default (see attached screenshot named "Profile names on old computer") - they appear instead to be what i named the profiles.

And when I do move them to the Profile Directory, they aren't recognized in Profile Manager, I assume because they don't end in .default (see screenshot named "Profiles on New Computer" and screenshot "New computer's Profile Manager").

But on my old Macbook, they are recognized just fine. What am I missing or doing wrong?

I'm currently running Ubuntu 20.04 although this problem began yesterday while I used Ubuntu 18.04. Simply put, I went to sleep on February 26 and on February 27 when I tried to start up firefox I only get the crash reporter. I am able to run 78.8.0esr thankfully, however I would greatly prefer to use the latest version of the browser. I can think of nothing I did between shutting down my browser on the 26 and waking up the next morning. Firefox will not start up in safe mode. I clean install from the snap store or ubuntu repositories has done nothing.

Below is my crash ID and i've attached all the details the crash reporter gives me.

In Options, the following selection item is included under General>>>Tabs:

"When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"

Although it has worked well in the past, selection of that option no longer seems to have an effect on new tab behavior. New tabs are thrust into the foreground regardless of whether or not the option is selected in Options.

Is this a flaw in the latest update to Firefox? Will it be corrected soon?

To Mozilla Management_Please stop the constant updates>Why do we have to update constantly? ie: SteveKessler SteveKessler 11/20/14, 3:27 PM

We run a very nice internet business and 5 computers keep it running strong however we are continuing to update almost weekly. It has become a hassle to use Firefox. When we first started using Firefox years ago we might get an update 2 times a year now it appears to be 2 times a month. Please let us know why and if there is something we can do to change this. Updating and make unnecessary changes is very costly to our business and if it continues we may have to change browsers. We love Firefox but the updates must stop be so frequent. We do not have the time to keep updating nor do we want any computer updating without someone watching it. We do not want automated updates. On update was the worst when you made all the unnecessary changes. It took me all day to all 5 computers to look alike so everyone could use them no matter where they work. Please consider yourself a top browser and not a fly by night. This is a professional company so please act like it, walk like and turn this around. I am wondering if someone from Microsoft has started to help you?

SteveKessler SteveKessler Question owner 11/20/14, 4:22 PM

Two different answers to one question. I am asking why does Firefox constantly make updates? Why not leave everything alone? I understand if it is necessary but about 95% of the changes are b/c someone thinks they are helping. It is broken so please stop updating. If there needs to be an update due to hacker, i.e. then okay but all these other updates is not making it any better. People think if we make this change it will help others when all it does is make us keep updating and we do not use the new idea. We just want a fast browser without the gimmicks. Please consider that you already had a great browser and leave it alone.

SteveKessler SteveKessler Question owner 11/20/14, 6:56 PM

We're not interested in making changes when nothing is broken. You had Notice the word HAD the best browser on the internet! Now it is another browser competition for what? Just leave it alone. It does not need unnecessary upgrades. Making changes to make changes is not improvement. Keep it up and you will run off everyone. I know more about this than you think. Worked 35 years in this industry and know more than most will ever learn. I know if you keep changing just to change it will break down and you will not get the people back. You are not justifying the means and customers are very finicky. You are very close to losing it all. Too many people trying to show they know something without counting the cost.

Many extensions ask for access to your entire browsing activity. While many extensions claim they are not doing so, this is not a technical restriction, but a policy restriction of their own.

In Chrome, there is a option within the browser to restrict extensions to operate within certain domains. For example, you could say that Honey is only allowed to run on *.amazon.com domains.

Is there a way to configure this option within FireFox? If not, what's the best way to request this feature be added? There are a number of extensions like Honey that are helpful for ecommerce and product research, but I want to provide a technical restriction to what data they can collect from the browser by restricting them to specific domains.

Thanks! Moose

Hello, i was unable to access Google and YouTube due to "Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER", i could still access Gmail and drive but those two would not budge, i was still able to access them trough Chrome tough.

I did not have any anti-virus installed, did install malwarebytes for a moment, did a scan and uninstalled it, did not do anything. Turned off windows defender and nothing happened. I did have glasswire installed so uninstalled that as well and nothing happened.

After researching a bit more i found a solution where a guy imported the required certificate from another browser so i did the same. The certificate from both these websites was "DigiCert Global Root G1A" and it was present in Chrome but it was missing in Firefox(In case its relevant), and afterward i got access to both these websites however YouTube stopped working properly. The sidebar on the main site does not show any content( https://prnt.sc/109dtjv ), the comment section wont load and also when i click on my profile it wont load as well ( https://prnt.sc/109dux1 ). As far as i am aware those are the only issues i am facing, the videos load with no problem. Everything is working properly on Chrome so i will assume its not YouTube. I tried starting in incognito mode and safe mode, the issue is still there. So what im currently assuming is that maybe i should not have imported a certificate from another browser but i could be wrong so any help would be appreciated.

TL:DR: Imported certificate from another browser to fix "Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER", now YouTube wont load the sidebar, comment section and myprofile dropdown menu.

I was configuring some update on my windows, until it broke and I was unable to get anything out. Everything had to be formatted. While formatting I didn't remember about the codes, and when I tried to log in my account, it says I have entered wrong password. I do have some guess of what the password may be but I am not sure. So, what I do have right now: Email Authenticator

Is there a way for me to recovery my old password(not firefox, but the ones stored) using just them? If not, is there any limit of me entering wrong passwords? I think if given enough time, I might be able to crack it.
