Was told that Mozilla thunderbird can help me to read saved .msg email messages. Please advise. Otherwise, I will need to remove this downloaded program.

I assume the .msg files were saved from Microsoft Outlook, and also that you do not currently have MS Outlook available to save them into a different format.

I don't think Thunderbird has a built-in importer for the Outlook .msg format. I have seen references to numerous option on the web, but don't have any personal experience with them.
