Unfortunately some media outlets will rather publish sensationalized stories generating many clicks and increased revenue by ads than perform the most basic fact-checking:

Since Brendan Eich was not fired nor forced out, I would think he could go back to Mozilla in some role if he wanted to since the Mozilla board encouraged him to stay in some capacity at least when he left.
