The browser displays white colours as checkered. And clearly it is not an issue of wrong backgound - checs change when I scroll a page up or down. I've tried reinstalling Firefox but nothing changed. What may cause the problem?

Are you running Firefox in compatibility mode?

You can open the Properties via the right-click context menu of the Firefox desktop shortcut and check that in the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

You can also try to disable color management.
You can set the pref gfx.color_management.mode to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.
You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

Thanks a lot. I posted this solution anyway, but actually I just entered "Options" and switches OS from Windows 95 to 2000. Apparently, there wasn't the option of Windows XP.
