Firebug does not work anymore

Yesterday firebug stopped working. The icon is there (greyed out) and I can't open it. I depend on it because I do a lot of ajax development.

Solutions I tried: Re-installing firebug Re-enabling firebug Re-installing firefox Uninstalling java

It is remarkable that the right mouse menu on the bottom right corner icon of firebug show weird (code) labels instead of translated labels that make sense.
