I run Firefox 121.0 on Windows 10 Pro. I use a VPN (ExpressVPN) and normally run Ghostery and uBlock Origin. When I log onto Townhall.com and enter my VIP credentials all is fine. However, when I read an article I should be able to access the comments. I cannot in Firefox and this is something that has occurred about 3-4 weeks ago. For years I have not had any problem like this with Firefox.

I tested VIP access with my iPhone - works fine. I tried Vivaldi - works fine. I tried Chrome - works fine. I try Firefox - fails!

I ran Firefox in "TroubleShoot" mode, with all add-ons turned off and it also fails. Even when I run Vivaldi I have Ghostery and ad blocking turned on, but Ghostery does allow townhall.com on their whitelist.

I've send emails to Townhall.com and am not getting any responses. However, I was having the issue with all devices but all have been fixed except with Firefox. So, I have no idea why this is an issue with Firefox but not with any other device.

Any thoughts?

It allows tracking by Disqus everywhere. Other sites still won't show Disqus comments unless their respective forum is allowed.

Try disabling Tracking Protection for the site.

Jeeze Louise! So now I have to let everybody, and their mothers, track me while on this site? I guess I'll have to use another browser that doesn't seem to have this problem.

I did make an exception for townhall.com but when I looked at the site-tracking icon, on the left side of the address bar, it was disabled, which allowed social media spying and google spying. Yikes! I certainly don't want that.  :-(

Thanks,

So I removed all "Exceptions" and lowered "Strict Tracking Protection" to "Standard Tracking Protection" and this seemed to work. I'm guessing this will work for me, although I hate tracking so don't really know how to get total protection.

Did you try to create a cookie allow exception for domains that were blocked by Firefox ETP ?

"Strict" mode is pretty aggressive. More so than other browsers. I use it for everything, but once in a while, some random website feature breaks. You can deal with it on a case-by-case basis, but that can get annoying if you want everything to "just work" all of the time. Reducing that setting to "standard," and running an ad blocker like uBlock Origin will still give you very good protection. I think "Standard" mode doesn't currently do cookie sandboxing, so just make sure to clear those regularly, or set up your browser to purge them automatically every time you close a tab or browser window.

You can allow comments on this site with Strict Tracking Protection by going to about:config and creating urlclassifier.trackingSkipURLs (String) with value "townhallcom.disqus.com, disqus.com".

That is the answer I was looking for. Where does this allow tracking? Disqus and the associated Townhall sites?
