Maximised window blocks auto-hidden taskbar when switching monitor

Set Windows taskbar to auto-hide. Maximise firefox on an external monitor (multi-screen or laptop). Unplug external monitor. Firefox moves to another screen, still maximised. Taskbar is inaccessible until you restore/maximise firefox.
