I have two (so far) websites, e.g. yahoo mail and Intuit, that tell me I need to update FireFox. (Can ignore only Yahoo.) However, I did one update, which blew away all of my add-ons, and I found that I was using latest version.

Does anyone have a solution? Are sites not accepting tracking and ad blocking now? I also use DuckDuckGo for search engine.

Would appreciate some words of wisdom on this.

Thank you, Bonsaibill

What version of Firefox are you using?

In your Questions Details > More system details on right of your post a=it appears for Firefox useragent has added stuff on end. Your User Agent: "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:94.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/94.0/8v13I6yV-57"

The /8v13I6yV-57 part is not normal. Some say this junk can be added by some antivirus clients.

You can also try doing this. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-reset-default-user-agent-firefox

One last thing.

Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Anytime you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org

You can report such a site at; http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/ Google Report Phishing Page which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

When stuff gets added to end of Firefox UA, sites sniffers may be confused on what Firefox version you are using and give the generic you need to update to current or such message.

Maybe more clues: 1. I am now using version 95.0 2. I get to my Yahoo mail using https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.intl=us&.src=ym , then enter my username and password. Once in, I receive note " The latest version of Yahoo Mail is not supported on your browser. Please use supported browser below oe use basic mail" There are three choices of browser, which includes Edge, Chrome and FireFox with button to update my choice and 4th option that I can continue but use basic version. I choose the last now to get to this email page. (See same message on laptop.) Get similar page going to Intuit but without last choice. 3. I have DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials and AdBlocker Ultimate addons. 4. I also have been using Kamo (got with CCleaner) but that has not given me any problems until now.

I went to page to update reset defaults as suggested. Found none of the settings for useragent given. Found only general.useragent.compatMode.firefox which was set to false.

For Intuit, it was different. They would let me access online version of TurboTax but when I tried to download a version I got the same message as above, but without another option. Will call them to see how to obtain download.

Had received warning from AOL where my private email is located that passwords had to be reset or Outlook wouldn't be useable. Deadline is today and hope that I did that one right.

Thank you for your time and effort in helping me. My IT skills are not great. Bonsaibill

You appear to have a user agent that is modified by Avast Anti-Track that could be causing problems, so if you do use this software then try to disable it. You will have to contact Avast about this if their software causes problems for you. We can't do much about this apart from identifying Avast Anti-Track as a possible cause.
