opening a link defaults to "save as"

Normally, when I click on a link that connects to a file, I'll get an option window allowing "Save" or "Open with". A few days ago, FF is defaulting to "Save" The same operation in Chrome still returns the option window.

Is there a setting I need to change?

Does this vary depending on the type of file? If the option on the Settings page for that content type is "Save File" instead of "Always ask", then Firefox won't prompt you to make a choice. This article describes how to check and change that setting:
