Could anyone tell me why am I getting symbols instead of texts in the dropdown menu of several websites?

Even when I am writing this, I am unable to answer the question "Which topic best describes your question?" because its drop down menu is not readable and full of symbols. I reinstalled the Firefox but the problems persisted.

Furthermore, I also reset the all the fonts menu in the "about:config" and changed "layout.css.font-visibility.level" to 1. Sadly, there was no luck.

I'd appreciate any suggestions regarding solution of this problem.

This is usually caused by a broken font installed on your computer that Firefox replaces by another font and in your case a symbol font.

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Settings -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Advanced
    [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above"

You can right-click and select "Inspect Element" to open the built-in Inspector with this element selected.

You can check in the Rules tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font-family is used for selected text. You can check in the Font tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font is actually used because Firefox might be using a different font than specified by the website.
